This dish is an all time favorite at home. For me its because of how little time and effort it takes to cook; for everyone else, I guess they just like it.
The ingredients are readily available. If you must you can use fresh tuna but fam, that's just long!! Use the tinned stuff. One thing I especially love about tuna pasta is that its a great family meal around the table or a quick lazy dish when you're not up to the cooking.
Serves 4
250g penne
3 celery stalks, finely chopped
1 large onion, finely
4 cloves of garlic, crushed
2 tins of tuna chunks
1/2 cup of sweetcorn
1/2 cup grated cheddar cheese
1/2 cup mozzarella cheese
1 tsp black pepper
4 tbs cooking oil
Salt to taste
Special equipment: Baking dish
The first step is to cook your pasta to al dente and set aside.
In a separate pan, add your cooking oil, onion and garlic and let them soften on a medium heat for about 3 minutes.
Next, add the tuna, sweetcorn and celery and season with salt and the black pepper. Mix them well and then add your béchamel sauce and half of the cheese. Turn the heat to low and once the cheese has melted, add your pasta and again mix well.
Pour the tuna pasta mix into a baking dish and sprinkle on the rest of the cheese. Put it under the broiler or in the oven for 5 minutes or until the cheese has melted and is golden brown.
Serve hot with a crisp garden salad
